The 6.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Dingri County, Shigatse City, Tibet on January 7, 2025, caused severe damage to local buildings. The epicenter was located in Cuoguo Township, with an average altitude of about 4471 meters within a 10-kilometer radius of the epicenter. Some houses were damaged, and the ground was littered with building materials and rocks. The public has evacuated to open areas for safety. As of 12:00 on January 8, the earthquake had caused the collapse of 3,609 houses in Dingri County. The most severely affected townships include Changsuo Township, Nixia Township, Quluo Township, and Cuoguo Township, with Cuoguo Township being at the epicenter. The earthquake was felt strongly locally, causing houses to collapse and the public to evacuate to open areas for safety. After the earthquake, the most pressing concern for the affected people is how to keep warm, and the government is sending more tents, cotton quilts, and other supplies. In addition, the 7 damaged national and provincial roads affected by the earthquake have been repaired.
