Start Time : 2016
End Time : 2024
This dataset provides annual surface water distribution information for Nepal and Gyirong County, Tibet Autonomous Region, China, from 2016 to 2024. It was derived from the JRC Global Surface Water v1.5 Yearly History product produced by the European Commission Joint Research Centre. The water-classification band was extracted and spatially clipped to the Nepal-Gyirong study area.
The dataset contains nine single-band GeoTIFF raster files, with one file for each year and an approximate spatial resolution of 30 m. Pixel values are categorical codes: 0 represents No Data, 1 represents Not Water, 2 represents Seasonal Water, and 3 represents Permanent Water. These codes are discrete classes and should not be averaged or interpreted as water quantity, probability, or percentage.
The dataset can support surface water mapping, identification of seasonal and permanent water bodies, annual water-area statistics, analysis of changes and class transitions from 2016 to 2024, and regional water-resource and ecological studies. Because the data are derived from satellite-based classification, narrow rivers, small water bodies, and shoreline pixels may be affected by the 30 m spatial resolution. Snow, glaciers, terrain shadows, and observation conditions may also affect classification in high-elevation areas.
